Top War Movies

With the much anticipated release of Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper this weekend, we thought it would be a good time to share our favorite war movies. We have yet to see many of the classics, and a good portion of the classics we have seen were many years ago or just marginally enjoyed so this list is just more recent war movies (1998-Now). War movies instill many things in its views: admiration, appreciation, respect, terror, and maybe most importantly the cost. These movies can focus on many different types of elements, such as unity (Fury, Saving Private Ryan), the psychological toll (The Hurt Locker, Full Metal Jacket), and sometimes exhilarating action (300, Inglorious Bastards). Many different formulas can be laid down to make an effective war movie as you will see from the diversity of my list.

1. Saving Private RyanSaving private ryan (1998)

2. The Hurt Locker (2008)

3. 300 (2006)

4. Lone Survivor (2014)

5. We Were Soldier (2002)

Others Under Consideration: Black Hawk Down (2001), Fury (2014),

Inglorious Bastards (2009), The Patriot (2000)

Oldies we have seen and liked: Full Metal Jacket (1987), Platoon (1986)

Still need to see: Apocalypse Now (1979), Schindler’s List (1993), The Thin Red Line (1998), Das Boot (1981),

Empire of the Sun (1987), Glory (1989)
